How to use the template
Your template will have these 3 tabs:
- Data Definitions: Explains what certain fields mean
- Product Content and Site Experience: Where you’ll add basic item details and information for each Walmart.com listing
- Trade Item Configurations: Where you’ll enter country of origin, weight and dimensions
To see definitions and examples for each field, select the row under the field name or enable wrap text.
Keep in mind that some fields have special formatting. Spec Product Type, States and others are closed lists, meaning you have to select options from the drop-down instead of typing.
Modifying the data in the first 6 rows, changing the tab names and more may also lead to data errors. Check out Troubleshoot item setup errors to learn more.
Multi-select fields
Some fields are multi-select, meaning you can choose to add more information. You can identify them by a plus sign next to the name, like in Key Features, Additional Image, Color and Variant Attributes.
Multi-select fields can have as many entries as needed. The first 3 are included in your template. To add more, right-click the field name or use the Excel ribbon to add a new column to the sheet.
Copy the field details (highlight the cells in rows 4–6) and paste them into the corresponding new cells. If you’d like to keep track of the number of additions, you can choose to change the numbers in row 4.
Product content and site experience
You must fill out these fields if they appear in your template:
- SKU
- Spec Product Type
- Required for Walmart Fulfillment Services
- Required for the item to be visible on Walmart.com
Based on the product types and fulfillment type you selected, your template will have different fields. We may ask for more details to better inform customers. For example, furniture items are often required to have measurements listed.
A state code will overwrite any ZIP codes because they apply to all ZIP codes within the state. For example, if you only want to restrict sales in specific areas of California, add the ZIP codes (such as 90011, 90003, 90026, 90044) and do not add CA.
Key features
Key features automatically appear as bullets on the Walmart.com listing and in search results. Headers and numbered lists are no longer supported in key features. The bullet-only format ensures that customers have a consistent experience as they find and buy items.
Only enter 1 key feature per column. The minimum number of required bullets will vary based on your item’s product type. For more tips, go to Add Items in Bulk: Full Setup.
Conditionally required based on product type
Some fields are required based on the product type. If a cell is gray, the field isn’t relevant to your product type, and you don’t need to enter any data.
If you only have 1 product type, the template won’t have the Conditionally Required based on Product Type section. Those fields will be combined with other sections instead.
Conditional/required for hazardous materials
Walmart-fulfilled items that contain specific potentially hazardous components or chemicals will require additional screening prior to being eligible for the program. Depending on whether your item has a chemical, aerosol or battery, you’ll need to fill in the Conditional/Required for Hazardous Materials section.
A compliance review is specific to a GTIN/UPC, not a SKU. If your item goes through this review, and you later change the GTIN/UPC, the item must go through review again before it can be listed in your WFS catalog. For more detail on what’s considered hazmat and the compliance process, go to WFS hazardous materials item setup.
Recommended and optional fields
Aside from the required information, you can fill in extra details to make customer search and browsing a richer experience. For example, you can add multiple images.
If you’re adding multiple kinds of one item (e.g., a pair of shoes that come in different colors or a shirt that comes in various sizes), we recommend setting up a variant group. For more information, go to Manage variant groups.
Trade item configurations
You only need to fill out the Each section for items. Make sure the product ID, orderable GTIN and each GTIN all match.
You must enter the products in the same order in both the product content tab and the trade items tab. If your items aren't in the same order, your template will have errors.
The dimensions in this tab are also used to determine whether your item will fit in our fulfillment centers. For more details on trade items and examples, go to Trade item configuration.
Make sure your item dimensions are accurate. We measure items during receiving, and mismatched dimensions may affect your WFS fees.
