Contains Chemical, Aerosol or Pesticide?

Required if your item is or contains:

  • Chemical
  • Aerosol
  • Pesticides

Indicates whether the item contains a chemical, pesticide, or aerosol. Find definitions and examples in the Hazardous Materials Overview. If "Yes," the item requires a compliance review.  **NOTE: Pesticides and Pesticide Devices, which are potentially regulated under FIFRA, are not allowed in WFS assortments.

Net Content Measure and Unit

Required if your item is or contains:

  • Chemical

  • Aerosol

  • Pesticides

The weight or volume of the consumable product in the package, as indicated by the item packaging.  The net content measure cannot be 0. The unit cannot be “each” or “count.”  Example: A gallon of shampoo has 33.8 fl oz.

Safety Data Sheet

Required if your item is/contains:

  • Chemical
  • Aerosol
  • Pesticides

And/or battery types:

  • Lead acid
  • Lead acid (non-spillable)
  • Lithium metal
  • Lithium ion

Documents that list information relating to occupational safety and health for the use of various substances and products. Also known as Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) or Product Safety Data Sheet (PSDS).  This document must be in English. It should also include standard information, such as Physical and Chemical Properties (section 9) and Transport Information (section 14).   You'll need to provide a link to the SDS for each unique hazardous component. If this linke is invalid, you won't be able to setup items. If you do not have the SDS for your items, please reach out to the manufacturer to request this information. To learn more about SDS, review WFS Compliance: Safety Data Sheets.

Number of Hazardous Components

Required if your item is/contains:

  • Chemical
  • Aerosol
  • Pesticides

And/or battery types:

  • Lead acid
  • Lead acid (non-spillable)
  • Lithium metal
  • Lithium ion

The number of items within the product that may need to have a compliance review.

Example: a remote control car contains batteries in both the car and the remote, so there are two items within the product that may require this review.

Batteries Included

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lead acid
  • Lead acid (non-spillable)
  • Lithium metal
  • Lithium ion

If this does not apply to your item, select "No."

Describes if batteries are contained inside the product.

Battery Size

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lead acid
  • Lead acid (non-spillable)
  • Lithium metal
  • Lithium ion

Identifies the size of a battery, as specified by its code. This lets customers know which size of battery to purchase to operate the device.    Example: AA, AAA, CR2330, 12V

Lithium Ion Batteries

This section is required if the battery type is lithium ion.

Battery Model

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lithium ion

Identifies the model name and number for each battery component.

Battery Form Factor

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lithium ion

Identifies whether the item contains a

  • Battery: a unit consisting of one or multiple cells to power a device
  • Cell: individual units (sometimes found in batteries) used to power a device
  • Button cell: a small single cell battery shaped like a button and used to power a device

Battery Count

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lithium ion

The number of batteries required to operate the product.    Example: 1, 2, 3, 4

Battery Cell Count

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lithium ion

The number of individual cells that are included to power the device.

Included Battery Packaging

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lithium ion

Only required for lithium-ion and lithium-metal batteries. Identifies how the battery is packed with the product to ensure the correct label is placed on the product when it is shipped from our facilities.

  • Loose: product that’s being sold is a battery
  • Contained in: product is sold with the lithium battery contained in the product
  • Packed with: product is sold with the lithium battery packed with the product for the customer to install in device

Battery Weight

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lithium ion

Identifies the total weight of batteries included with or built into the product. Battery weight is captured in grams.

Battery Watt Hour Rating

Required if battery type selected is:

  • Lithium ion

Indicates unit of measurement for power over a period of time. Only required for lithium-ion batteries. For examples, see the DOT Lithium Battery Guide

WFS compliance review

Items that you or our system identifies as a potential hazardous material will be put on hold until they're reviewed by the Walmart compliance team. View items under review on the Items on Hold page. A compliance review applies to an item UPC/GTIN, not a SKU. If your item undergoes this review, and you later change the UPC/GTIN, the item must go through this process again before it can be listed in your WFS catalog.

Look for your on-hold items in the WFS Compliance tab. (For seller-fulfilled items, see the Trust and Safety tab.) Items may have an In Review status for up to 3 business days. After the review is complete, the item status will update on the Items on Hold page. There are 3 statuses for On Hold items:

  • In Review: The item is currently under compliance review for up to 3 business days. Weekends and holidays are not included.
  • Action Needed: There are invalid or insufficient data identified in your compliance-related submission.
  • Prohibited: The item is not eligible for the WFS program. See the WFS Prohibited Products list.
Notes

Providing inaccurate information may result in item setup delays and regulatory liability. Falsely representing your items in an effort to bypass these assessments is prohibited and could result in expulsion from the WFS program.

How to resolve action needed

Items with an Action Needed status need new or corrected information to pass the compliance review. To edit each item, select the Action Needed status to open the item edit page and correct errors.

If several items have Action Needed, you can edit them all at once:

  1. Go to the Action Needed tab.
  2. Select Download, then the Action needed in bulk option.
  3. Download the file once it's finished processing.
  4. Review the downloaded file and correct any errors.
  5. Resubmit by going back to the Items on Hold page and selecting Upload.

In addition to completing compliance reviews, Walmart will review as needed any items with potential geographic shipping restrictions. Please be on the lookout for an email from Walmart’s Trust and Safety Team to confirm any shipping restrictions during the item setup process. Responding to these emails as soon as possible will ensure your items are properly setup and can be received to Walmart fulfillment centers without additional delays.

If items are in review for longer than 3 business days, please create a case by selecting Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) Program > WFS Fulfillment Item Setup & Maintenance > Status of Hazmat Item. Make sure to give us:

  • Impacted UPCs or GTINs
  • Feed ID from your last attempt to add or convert the item

API users

If you’re an API seller, you can assess your on-hold hazmat items and potential errors directly from API call. The Hazmat Items On Hold API gives you visibility into items that are on hold for hazmat compliance review, including items with an In Review, Action Needed, or Prohibited status. You can also call this API to review your Action Needed error descriptions and understand how to correct them for further assessment. For details, see Hazmat Items on Hold in the Developer Portal.
