WFS trade item configuration

Overview

When you set up a Walmart-fulfilled item, we ask for trade item configurations, in addition to product and offer details. Trade item hierarchy describes the relationship between shipping units. It helps us understand how to receive and fulfill your shipment.

Pro tip

The product ID, orderable GTIN and Each GTIN must match.

How does it work?

To understand how to receive and fulfill your items, we need 2 types of GTIN:

  • Orderable GTIN identifies how your item will be shipped to our fulfillment center. This GTIN will appear on the inbound order that you’ve created for WFS. The orderable GTIN must match the Each GTIN.
  • Sellable GTIN (Product ID) identifies how your item will be shipped to customers.

In most cases, how you’re shipping to fulfillment centers and to customers is the same. The trade item hierarchy is simple: your product ID, orderable GTIN and Each GTIN should all be the same.

For example, imagine laundry detergent is packaged at 4 levels:

  • Each: An individual sellable unit. An Each GTIN is required for all items.
  • Inner Pack: Package that groups multiples of the same items for shipping/receiving purposes.
    • Also known as a break pack, warehouse pack or inner case.
  • Case: Outermost box that contains Eaches packed individually or in an Inner Pack. All items in the master case must be the same item.
    • Also known as a vendor pack, orderable pack, shipping case, shipping pack, full case or supplier pack.
  • Pallet: A shipping unit that contains either Cases, Inner Packs or Eaches. All items in the pallet must be the same item.

Using our example, that might mean you’re shipping laundry detergent to a fulfillment center as an individual sellable unit (Each) and selling it to customers as an individual sellable unit (also Each). Your product ID, orderable GTIN and Each GTIN will be the same.

Manage in Seller Center

If you’re adding or converting just 1 item, you’ll provide trade hierarchy with these steps.

  1. Select GTIN as the Item identifier and enter the item GTIN.
  2. In the Fulfillment & Compliance section, add the same GTIN in the Orderable GTIN field.
  3. Scroll down to add the same GTIN in Each GTIN.

Manage in item template

If you’re adding or converting multiple items at a time, you’ll fill in the template with these steps.

  1. Copy the SKU in the category tab.
  2. Paste it into the SKU in the trade items tab.
  3. Copy the Product ID in the category tab.
  4. Paste it into Orderable GTIN and Each GTIN in the trade items tab.
  5. Add the depth, width, height and weight for your Each item, including packaging.

Notes

Make sure your item dimensions are accurate. We measure items during receiving, and mismatched dimensions may affect your WFS fees.

2 or more tiers

WFS only requires that the product ID, orderable GTIN and Each GTIN match. As long as those 3 fields are the same, feel free to include more levels to reflect how your item is shipped.

For example, you might ship multiple laundry detergents to a fulfillment center in a box (Case). But when we fulfill orders, customers will receive their detergent as individual bottles (Each).

Troubleshooting

Here are common issues that happen during item setup. Try these solutions and resubmit the spec sheet. For additional help, contact Seller Support.

Error

Solution

  • Package dimension information is incorrect.
  • A GTIN and related pack configuration must be provided for at least one level of the Trade Item hierarchy: ‘Each,’ ‘Inner Pack,’ ‘Case,’ or ‘Pallet.’
  • TradeItemGtin is required inside packConfiguration

A trade item GTIN and/or dimensions are missing.

Fill in at least the Each GTIN and dimension for your item.

  • The ‘Sellable GTIN’ (Product Identifier) and ‘Each GTIN’ / ‘Inner Pack GTIN’ / ‘Case GTIN’ / ‘Pallet GTIN’ fields do not match. Ensure the 'Sellable GTIN' (Product Identifier) field matches with one level of the Trade Item hierarchy.
  • PackConfig does not match sellableGtin.

Check that the Product ID and Each GTIN match.

A GTIN has been included in the item configuration for more than one pack type.

The same GTIN is repeated in the trade item hierarchy. A GTIN can only be used in one of the following fields: Each, Inner Pack, Case or Pallet.

Check that each of these fields within the trade hierarchy section has a unique GTIN.

PackConfig does not match orderableGtin.

Make sure the Orderable GTIN and Each GTIN match.

The Sellable GTIN provided matches one or more of the following GTINs provided: Inner Pack, Case or Pallet. If the GTINs match, the Quantity of Sellable Items must be 1. Please change your GTIN(s) or the Quantity of Sellable Items for matching GTIN(s).

Customers will receive more than 1 sellable item. Find the Quantity of Sellable Items that matches your sellable GTIN (the lowest level of the hierarchy). Update the number to 1.
