Troubleshooting
Big and bulky means items that are larger and heavier than usual. Here are just some examples of big and bulky items:
- Home appliances (e.g., big screen TVs, refrigerators)
- Sporting and recreation equipment (e.g., kayaks, bikes, home gyms, pool tables)
- Outdoor items (e.g., pools, trampolines, patio furniture)
- Home goods (e.g., furniture, desks, chairs)
If you’ve used Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) before, the item setup, packaging and shipping processes are all the same. Send big and bulky items to WFS facilities through freight shipping, and we’ll take care of delivering them to customers in a reliable, timely manner.

How does it work?
Your item is considered big and bulky if it meets at least one of these criteria:
Unit weight is between 150 lb and up to 500 lb
Longest side is between 108" and up to 120", including packaging
Longest side + girth* is greater than 165", including packaging
*Girth = 2 x (width + height)
In addition, your big and bulky item must be able to fit through a trailer door. Make sure it follows these limits:
Median side is less than 105", including packaging
Shortest side is less than 93", including packaging
Imagine Bentonville Sporting Goods sells kayaks. Each one weighs 36 lb. and is 120" x 28" x 14". To determine if it’s eligible for the big and bulky tier:
Unit weight | 36 lb. |
Longest side | 120" |
Longest side + girth | 120" + 2*(28" + 14") = 204" |
This kayak is a big and bulky item because its longest side and longest side + girth meet the criteria. Its dimensions are also within a trailer’s limits.
Fees
The simplest way to preview fulfillment and storage fees is through the WFS Cost Estimator. Just tell us the item dimensions and weight, and we’ll automatically calculate estimated fees. Big and bulky fees are based only on unit weight. We do not charge for packaging or pallet weight.
For a complete breakdown of fees, including return processing, go to WFS fees.
Send inventory to WFS
No matter the size and shape of your items, you’ll use the same processes to set up items and send inventory to a WFS facility. See the WFS Routing and Packaging Guide for labeling and packaging requirements.
If you choose a Walmart preferred carrier, we can only accept 48” x 40” pallets for freight at this time. For non-standard pallet sizes, please use a different carrier.
It normally takes up to 2 business days to receive inventory from the time it was delivered. However, items that require unplanned prep work (e.g., incorrect labels, missing inbound order), or that arrive during sales events, holidays, peak months (October 1–December 31) or other circumstances may take up to 10 business days to process.
Shipping speed and delivery
Big and bulky items are shipped using ground transportation and may require more than 2 days for delivery. The shipping speed will depend on your assigned fulfillment center and the customer’s location. On Walmart.com, items will have a 3+day shipping tag but customers will see a more accurate estimate in the listing’s details.
The carrier will deliver to the first dry, secure area of a customer’s home. This could be outside the front door, on a porch or inside a lobby.
Customer returns
Big and bulky items cannot be returned in stores. Instead, customers can return big and bulky items by scheduling a pickup. When a customer starts a return, they'll get instructions on how to do so, such as placing the item outside their home’s door. They do not need to repackage the item. The carrier will take care of it and transport items directly from a customer’s home to a WFS return center.
We’ll then follow the WFS returns process to assess the returned item. If it’s in a sellable condition, we’ll put the item back in inventory. However, customers may return big and bulky items already assembled or with damaged packaging. If the item is unsellable, we’ll ship it back to you or dispose of it. Note that for any returns identified as Walmart at fault, Walmart will keep the inventory regardless of your return rules.
