Overview

A virtual pack is a way to sell different combinations of a single product, such as paper towels sold in a two-pack or three-pack. This item setup method is helpful when a manufacturer doesn't provide pre-packaged options. In this guide, you'll learn how to create a virtual pack in Seller Center.

Notes:

Participation in virtual packs is by invitation-only and not available to all Marketplace sellers.

Create a virtual pack

Step 1 — Get started

Navigate to your Catalog in Seller Center and select the Add items button. Select the Upload here link under Upload any spreadsheet. On the next page, select the Download spreadsheet button under Virtual pack setup.

Notes:

You can only create a virtual pack for an item that’s already in your catalog.

Pro tip

Use Bundle price to set the total selling price for the virtual pack. Bundle price lets you define the customer-facing price for the entire pack instead of applying a percentage discount to the individual item price.

Step 2 — Complete the template

Enter as much information as possible. Make sure to fill out the required fields, or you’ll receive an error during the upload.

Field

Requirement level

Description

Component GTIN

Required

The 14-digit GTIN for the existing item.

Virtual Pack Quantity

Required

The number of units included in the pack.

Bundle Price

Required

The total selling price for the virtual pack.

Main image URL

Recommended

The web address (URL) of an image that represents the virtual pack. Use this field if you want to reference an image hosted online instead of uploading one.

Key Features

Recommended

Highlights that appear on the item page and in search results.

Site Start Date

Optional

The date the virtual pack becomes available on Walmart.com.

Site End Date

Optional

The date the virtual pack is removed from Walmart.com

Notes:

The Recommended fields are optional. You only need to complete these fields if you have extra information to add. For example, if you want to use an online image of the pack instead of uploading one of your own, enter the image's web address (URL) in the Main image URL field.

Step 3 — Upload the template

To upload your completed template, navigate to your Catalog in Seller Center and select Add items. Select the Upload here link located under Upload any spreadsheet. You can drag and drop your file onto the browser window under Upload your completed spreadsheet, or select the browse link to locate the file on your computer.

Notes:

After submitting your items, you can track their status from the Activity Feed in Seller Center. Updates may take up to 24 hours. Any data errors that are detected during the updates will require extra processing time.

Step 4 — Manage your virtual pack

Once you’ve created the pack, you can manage it from your Catalog. Navigate to your Catalog in Seller Center and locate the pack's primary item (virtual packs aren't searchable). Then, hover your cursor over the item and select the Variant item button to edit the item's pack and bundle deals. Use the following table to complete common management tasks:

Manage inventory

Inventory is managed at the individual item level, not at the pack level. When inventory is added or removed in Seller Center, it happens in individual units, not in packs. You can update seller-fulfilled inventory in bulk or manage WFS inventory.

Make a component unavailable for purchase

Open the item in your Catalog  and navigate to the Site Experience section. Then select the Bundle Component Transactable menu and choose No to remove the component's availability from Walmart.com. Only the virtual packs will be available to buy.

Review ineligible items

Only new items can be sold in a virtual pack. Ineligible items include Preowned and Refurbished items, beds, gift cards and certificates, and home gyms. For more information, download the complete list of ineligible items.

Review performance metrics

Navigate to the Reports page in Seller Center, locate the Report activity section and select the Report type menu. Choose Virtual Pack Report and select the download icon to download a copy of the report.

Set up a virtual pack in Seller Center

You can also set up a virtual pack from the Catalog page in Seller Center. Navigate to the Catalog page, locate the item you want and select the item’s checkbox. Then navigate to the Actions column, select the three dots and choose Create virtual pack.

Set up a virtual pack through APIs

If you use API integrations, you must support Multi-line Multi-quantity (MLMQ) order structures to enable virtual packs and certain fulfillment capabilities. This requirement applies to both seller-fulfilled and Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) workflows.

For implementation details, refer to the Developer Portal.

Update virtual pack price

Navigate to the Catalog page in Seller Center and locate the item you want to edit. In the Actions column, select the three dots and choose Manage virtual pack. On the next page, locate the item you want, select the three dots again and choose Edit virtual pack.
