Walmart Preferred Carrier: Set up shipments
Last updated on Oct 22, 2024

Overview

Learn how to choose a Walmart preferred carrier for your shipment and estimate the shipping price. For less-than truckload (LTL) and full truckload (FTL) shipments, we’ll schedule the carrier pickup for you.

Notes

Full truckload (FTL) for the Walmart Preferred Carrier Program is currently available on various shipping lanes throughout the US. These lanes cover the majority of inbound FTL shipments to Walmart Fulfillment Services facilities. We're continuing to add lanes, and we plan to have complete coverage for all WFS sellers by mid-2025. If you're not seeing FTL service available for your shipping lane, please complete the intake form. We'll review your information and get back to you on whether we can expedite adding your shipping lane to our network.

How to set up shipments

Step 1 – Create inbound order

Log into Seller Center and go to the Shipments page, then select Send inventory.

Add expected delivery date, address, items and quantities to create the inbound order. You may see multiple shipments based on your items and quantities. For more detail, view Send domestic inventory.

Step 2 – Set up shipment

From the inbound order details page, select Set up for a shipment.

Or if you want to set up the shipment later, you can always search for a shipment on the Shipments page. Then select the 3 dots and choose the Set up shipment option.

Step 3 – Review items

Check the items, quantities and Prep Services you added to your inbound order. You can add up to 6 more units.

Step 4 – Estimate price

In the side panel, confirm Walmart preferred carrier is the carrier. Then choose the freight type and enter packing details.

For LTL and FTL, you’ll also add a preferred pickup date. We’ll use this date to schedule with the carrier, but the actual pickup date may differ based on operational requirements. If several days pass after the pickup date but we haven’t heard from your contact person, we may consider the shipment invalid and proceed to cancel.

Enter packing details for the shipment, including dimensions and weight. Select Calculate price to continue.

Pro tip

For parcel, you can fill out a template to add packing details for multiple items at a time. Look for the Upload in bulk link in the top corner.

Step 5 – Add contact and operating hours

Notes

This step is optional for parcel.

Add contact info for your warehouse. We’ll email the bill of lading to this person, and the carrier may send updates about the pickup.

For LTL and FTL, you’ll also add operating hours for when your warehouse is open. Make sure these are accurate so we can schedule a pickup with the carrier.

Step 6 – Confirm

Submit the shipment, and we’ll assign a preferred carrier within 24 hours.

What to expect next

For LTL and FTL shipments, your preferred pickup date is the earliest date you can expect the carrier to arrive. We'll coordinate with the carrier and email you a confirmed pickup date.

For more on the pickup process, go to Walmart Preferred Carrier: Prepare for pickup.

How to void charges

Once you’ve confirmed the shipment, you’ll have a limited window to void the charges and edit the shipment: 24 hours for parcel and 1 hour for LTL and FTL.

To void charges, search for the inbound order or shipment on the Shipments page. Then select the 3 dots and choose the View order option. Look for the Void charges option in each shipment.
