When reviewing your payment statement, you may encounter various payment activities that may delay the disbursement of your funds. Some of these activities include account-level Payment Reserves, Payment Holds or Payment Suspensions. There are a number of reasons why you may encounter one of these payment activities and in this guide, you’ll learn more about them.
This material has been prepared for informational purposes only and is not intended to provide and should not be relied on for legal advice. If you should have any questions about this information, you should consult your own legal advisors.
How does it work?
Payment Reserves: It is a normal part of selling on Walmart Marketplace to see an account-level reserve in your statement summary. Reserves indicate a fixed amount of money set aside to cover expected refunds, chargebacks or other risks. Note that payment reserves will appear on the Statements page as one line item, but your reserve total may comprise multiple reserves for different purposes. If you are importing with Walmart Cross Border, you may see a payment reserve set aside to cover your expected costs for shipments in progress. For more information, check out this guide.
Payment Holds: All Marketplace orders are eligible for payment holds seven or more days after the order has been shipped. Payment holds indicate a delay on payments for a specified number of calendar days. The payment hold timeframe begins after the order has shipped.
Once the payment hold timeframe has ended, the funds will be processed in the next scheduled settlement cycle date.
Depending on the payment hold timeframe that has been applied, it can take up to a month or more to receive funds after an order was shipped. This is because settlement cycles occur bi-weekly on alternate Fridays at midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST).
If you’re a new seller to Walmart Marketplace, you’ll experience a New Seller Payment Hold until the requirements outlined in our policy are met.Payment Suspensions: Payments on your account can be temporarily suspended for various reasons. Once suspended, you won’t receive any funds until the suspension is lifted. Suspensions can vary in length and typically last until a review of your account is completed.
Additional guidelines
There are a number of reasons why you may encounter one or more of these payment activities. If you’ve encountered one of these payment activities, your account will go into review. Upon completing a risk assessment, Walmart will either release payments and return you to a normal payment schedule or take additional steps, which may include a reevaluation of your account status. High-level reasons to encounter a payment activity can be related to your:
- Compliance
- Customer orders
- Payment service provider
- Performance or risk reviews
- Shipping
- Anticipated invoices
- Unusual transactions
- Legal
Your payments will be suspended if there's an ongoing legal issue or case on your seller account. Once all your legal cases are resolved and if there are no other payment activities on your account, your payment will be released on your next payment cycle.
