International variants policy

Overview

If a Marketplace item has multiple variants based on region and it shares the same product ID, the item needs its own listing. This ensures that mismatches in Walmart’s catalog aren’t created. In this guide, you’ll learn about the policy and requirements for listings with international variants.

What is the policy?

The international version or regional variant must be listed on a separate item page that is specific to that version. Both the product title and description on each item page must contain specific international information about the version. This ensures the customer knows the version they’re ordering.

Only international items that meet all legal requirements for sale in the U.S. may be listed. If an item is intended for a market outside of the U.S., the item cannot be listed under the item listing page for the U.S. product. Items must be compatible for use with U.S. outlets. Items must be FCC compliant, with FCC ID visible on the product itself and/or on packaging.

Pro tip

Consider setting up your items via Express Setup before creating a new international version item to avoid creating duplicates and violating Walmart’s Duplicate listings policy.

Walmart, as determined in its sole discretion, reserves the right to suspend or terminate your Marketplace account or unpublish your Marketplace listings if you fail to meet the guidelines in this policy. Additionally, existing inventory held at a Walmart facility will be returned to you at your expense for any non-compliance of this policy.

Additional guidelines

Use the table below as a guide to set up items that are compliant with this policy:

Attribute

Requirement

Title

The title must show either the international version or where regional or country variants are differentiated, noting the country version or regional variant. E.g., (International Version), (Japan Version), (Dubai Version), etc.

Description (short and long description)

The short and long description must begin with information noting the item’s country version or regional variant. Additionally, the description should include detailed information about any meaningful differences between the U.S. and international variant.

E.g.

  • Short description: Item version: Japan
  • Long description: This product is an international version for Japan

Imagery

All listings must include images of the actual international version item. Don’t use domestic version images. Include any images with differences from the domestic version product (packaging, plug, adapter, etc.).

Product identifier (ID)

The UPC or GTIN for all international variants must be different than the UPC or GTIN for the U.S. version. If the UPC or GTIN provided by the manufacturer is the same, don’t provide your own Product ID. Visit Product identifier (GTIN, UPC, ISBN or EAN) policy for more information.
