Product Identifiers (more commonly known as product IDs) are universally accepted codes that are unique to every item sold on Walmart.com. It is required that all items sold on Walmart Marketplace have a product ID. If you encounter an error when adding product IDs during the item setup process, use the information found below as your guide to troubleshoot the issue.
Four common product ID errors
1. I've encountered a product ID error during item setup.
What should I do?
Incorrect GTINs or UPCs due to typos, copy and paste errors, or non-existent numbers can cause a product ID error during item setup. Check the product ID entries on your spec and resubmit.
2. My item doesn’t have a product ID.
What should I do?
Walmart Marketplace doesn't allow items with incorrect or missing product IDs on Walmart.com. If you want to sell an item that does not have a product ID, purchase a GS1-certified product ID. If you do not have a product ID for an item but believe it should be listed, select the Help button in the Seller Center menu bar to contact Support.
3. My product was merged incorrectly.
What should I do?
When there is a product ID or content mismatch, the wrong information such as product name, images, description and other product specifications, may be merged onto an item page.
For example, if you are selling a pack of 12 bar soaps, but you use a product ID for a pack of 24, your item might be merged with other offers for 24-pack bar soap on the item page. If your offer wins the Buy Box, customers might order your item thinking that it’s a pack of 24 but they are purchasing a pack of only 12. This may result in returns, as well as a bad customer experience.
For details on how to set up your item as a variant (same item but different pack quantity), visit Product Variant Groups: Overview.
4. I want to prevent product ID errors.
What should I do?
Remember, incorrect product IDs will lead to errors on our listings and may result in low sales, high return rates and a negative customer experience. To help prevent Product ID errors, implement the tips below.
Verify the barcode on the item's packaging or by looking up the product on the manufacturer's website.
Double check that the Product ID for your items are free of typos and copying errors.
Make sure the Product ID you’re using is for the right quantity and version.
If your item does not have a Product ID, never create a fake one.
