Preorder: Set up items
Last updated on Dec 18, 2024
Reading time: 3 min
Overview

Through Preorder, you can list items up to 12 months before they’re released to market. The item will then be shipped the day of the product’s release. In this guide, you’ll learn how to set up preorder items using single item or bulk upload setup.

Notes

Participation in the Preorder program is by invitation-only and not available to all Marketplace sellers.

Add items

Step 1 – Get Started

Navigate to the Catalog page in Seller Center and select the Add items button at the top right. Next, select create a new item under the Search the Walmart catalog heading.

Step 2 – Add item details and attributes

At the bottom of the page, fill out the Optional section to set up items for preorder.

Pro tip

You can successfully set up seller-fulfilled items through five attributes while using single item or bulk upload setup.

  • Is preorder: Indicates if this item is available for preorder.

  • Release date: Indicates the date the item will be released to the public by the manufacturer.
  • Site start date: Indicates the date when the item can be preordered by a customer.

  • Site start time: Indicates the time when a customer can begin preordering the item. This is shown in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) format to the closest minute.

Step 3 – Submit

Once all the required fields are complete, select Submit.

Manage inventory

Step 1 – Get started

Navigate to the Catalog page in Seller Center and find the Inventory column. Select the value under the item you want to list for preorder.

Step 2 – Add item details and attributes

Fill out the Fulfillment center field. Under Available on, enter the date you’ll get more inventory. This will keep your listing available for preorder. Then, in the On hand field, enter the amount of inventory that will be available by the date you selected. The On hand quantity must be tied to the Inventory Available Date for preorder inventory.

You must fill out both the On hand and Inventory Available Date fields for your inventory to be successfully set up for Preorder.

Pro tip

Only set Available On for your Preorder item. Leave it blank if it's a regular item that you currently have inventory available for. Make sure to update the inventory with on-hand quantity only (without the inventory available date) whenever you physically received the expected Preorder inventory.

Step 3 – Submit

Once all the required fields are complete, select Update. The expected quantity of preorder items will appear in the column.
