Overview

Promotional pricing should be used as a method to provide a temporary price reduction for Marketplace items and should last no more than 180 days. In this guide, you’ll learn more about how promotional pricing works on Walmart.com.

How does it work?

The Comparison Price is used as a reference price to determine strikethrough and discounted pricing on Walmart.com. It's defined by an item’s Was Price or List Price. The promotional price must be at least 10% lower than the Was Price or List Price for a strikethrough to appear. You can run a Promotions Report in Seller Center to browse all active promotions. For Walmart API, you can use the Price and Promotional Price Management API to manage promotions.

There are two ways you can create and manage a promotion in Seller Center:

  • Using the Price and promotion template from the Catalog where you can create and manage your promotions. Review this guide to learn how to set up promotional pricing using the Price and promotion template.

  • Navigate to Pricing and select the Promotions dashboard where you can create new promotions and view active, scheduled and expired promotions. Review this guide to learn how to set up and manage promotions using the Promotions dashboard.

Additional guidelines

When setting up promotional pricing on Walmart.com, you can choose from a Promo Type or Price Placement, although it's not required.

Promo Types: Promo Types are identified on Walmart.com with a Reduced Price or a Clearance flag. A strike through refers to the Was Price or List Price.

  • Reduced Price: Must only be selected during a temporary price reduction of at least 14 days (ex., during special merchandising events on Walmart.com).

  • Clearance: Must only be selected if the item has either reached the end of its lifecycle or is being liquidated.

Price Placements: Price Placements only display the promotional price in the customer’s shopping cart during the checkout process when the item is listed for less than the Minimum Advertised Price (MAP).
