Booking a delivery

Client admins, Walmart admins, and Store admins can book deliveries from the Client Center dispatcher. Pickup point employees who have access to a selected pickup point can also book a delivery, however some of the fields are pre-populated based on their role. Let's walk through how to book a delivery.

Notes

This feature is available only if the Book delivery toggle is activated in Client Center.

1. After you sign in to Client Center, select a company from the Clients list.
2. Select the Dispatcher tab.

3. Click the Book delivery button to open the Book delivery: Fill details window. Start entering information in the Fill delivery details tab.

4. Select a Pickup Location. The drop-down shows a list of addresses that have an active delivery service. This is a required field. Pickup Location maybe pre-populated based on your role. Pickup point employees can have access to only one pickup location, in which case this field is automatically populated. The Client admins can have access to more than one pickup locations, in which case a drop-down list is available to select the pickup location.

A search bar allows the users to search from available Pickup points. The search filter works on both a Pickup point address and External ID. For example, if you start typing 4321 in the text box, addresses or external IDs that have 4321 in them will show in the list.

5. Type a Drop-off location. This is a required field. The drop-down list shows a list of drop-off locations configured in the Client Center for the selected client.


Walmart GoLocal validates if drop-off is available to the selected location based on the delivery area set up during delivery configuration. A quick location eligibility check ensures that the selected drop-off is eligible for the delivery of orders. 

Recipient Details section   

6. Enter the recipient's first and last name. These are required fields.

7. Enter the recipient's valid email address. This is an optional field.

8. Enter the recipient's phone number. This is a required field.

9.  Select Yes or No from the Send customers SMS updates? section. If Yes is selected, an opt-in message is sent to the end customer to confirm they're ready to receive updates on their order delivery status.

Order details section

10. Enter an order ID, if applicable, in the Order ID text box. This is the assigned identifier that you’re using for the order in your system. Walmart GoLocal automatically assigns an order ID if it is not entered.  

11. Enter the total number of packages to be delivered in the Total number of items text box. This is a required field. The entered number includes packages at the highest level, meaning that packages put in a bigger package are not considered.Use the + and - buttons to increase or decrease the number of packages.

12. Select an order size – Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, Oversized from the Size drop-down list. The size chart in the drop-down helps you to determine the order size. This size applies to the entire order irrespective of the number of packages.

13. If your Pickup point is configured for pharmacy, or alcohol, or both, you'll see applicable a Special Handling section. Select if any special handling items are being ordered with the delivery. Alcohol and prescription medicines are considered as special handling items.

You must select special handling in their order, so that neither alcohol nor pharmacy compliance is violated. 

Notes

You cannot book pharmacy and alcohol delivery across state borders through the Book delivery UI or using API. 

14. Enter item level details for Oversized deliveries. These fields are mandatory for Oversized deliveries and optional for all other sizes (Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large).

Notes

For Order size Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large, select Yes or No to add or omit item level details in the Do you have weight or dimension details for your order? field. If item dimension details are entered, Order Size is calculated and updated while booking. For example, item size is changed from Oversize to Small if item volume is < 4 cu. ft. and item weight is < 50 lbs.

a. Enter a description for the item in the Item Description field.
b. Use the + and - buttons to select the total number of items in the Item Quantity field. The Item Quantity selected must match the Order Quantity.
c. Enter the Length, Width, and Height of the item in inches or feet.
d. Enter the weight of the item in pounds.


15. Enter the barcode information for each package in the Barcode Number text box. Barcodes must be 16 digits and cannot be alpha-numeric. If the client has the Chain of custody toggle activated in delivery configuration, this is a required field.

Notes

The number of barcodes should be same as the number of packages entered in Order quantity.

Delivery details section

16. Select a delivery date. This is a required field. Clients can book a delivery 7 days in advance.

17. Select a Start Time and End Time for the delivery. This is to specify what time you’d like your order delivered. This is a required field. Delivery slot duration can be as short as 30 mins for express delivery, and as long as the Max delivery window defined in the delivery configuration for the selected pickup point giving extra flexibility to our clients on slot duration.

18. Pickup time is automatically populated and reflects the delivery Start time as default value. You may change the Pickup time if needed and set it to any time between the current time and delivery start time if booking a delivery for today, or anytime between pickup point opening time and delivery start time if booking for a future date.

Notes

Availability of a Delivery Date, Start Time and End Time for the delivery depends on the configured Delivery Hours and Holiday/Special Hours for a Pickup Point.

19. Enter any delivery instructions the driver should know in the Drop-off notes For Driver text box. 20. Click the Review button.

The Review your delivery tab opens on the Book delivery: Review details window.

You can review the location details, recipient details, order details, and delivery details before you submit the request for booking a delivery and edit the order details, if needed.

20. Click Confirm.

Notes

Click Edit to update the order details. Click Cancel to cancel the order. Once you confirm booking, the order cannot be edited.  

The Book delivery: Confirmation window opens.

You can exit from here or book another delivery using the Book another delivery button.

You can see the delivery details on the Dispatcher screen. The status/progress of the requested delivery is populated on the dash in Client Center and Spark Dispatcher.
