Overview

Before you can start shipping your products to customers, you’ll need to set up your shipping settings and define shipping rules for each region you deliver to by creating a Shipping Template in Seller Center or by using Walmart APIs. In this guide, we’ll show you the different types of Shipping Templates settings you can create.

How does it work?

In your Shipping Template configuration, you’ll choose your preferred shipping method, regions, and ship cost. You can configure your preferences manually or through automation and set up flexible transit times for various delivery regions.

Additional guidelines

Automated shipping settings

If you use USPS, UPS or FedEx, you can automate your shipping settings which means Walmart will use your warehouse’s location and shipping carrier service information to calculate a more accurate transit time for customers. When you automate your shipping settings, you don’t need to manually set transit times. We'll automatically calculate an accurate delivery promise to customers using the carrier service you select.

You can only automate your shipping settings if you offer free shipping and use one of our approved shipping carriers (USPS, UPS or FedEx). Automation is also a good option for those who need lag time to fulfill orders.

Manual shipping settings

If you don’t use an approved shipping carrier or offer free shipping, you’ll need to set up your shipping settings manually. There are four different templates you can choose from:

  • Default: Each Seller Center account has one Default Shipping Template that you can customize. The configurations are automatically applied to your entire catalog if no other templates are assigned to your SKUs.

  • Custom: You can create up to 60 different Custom Shipping Templates for your seller-fulfilled items. If you use a third-party fulfillment provider, such as Deliverr (also known as Flexport), you can create 30 additional templates for the items that they fulfill on your behalf.

  • Paid Standard: A Paid Standard Template should be created for items that don’t qualify for free standard shipping. You’ll also use this template if you need to disable Value shipping. To set up a Paid Standard Template, choose the Set up special template option at the bottom of the Shipping Templates page.

  • Freight: Shipping large and bulky items that require less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping must be configured through the Freight shipping method. An item qualifies for freight if it falls within a designated freight category or if its shipping weight exceeds 150 lbs. Use the Freight Shipping Template to ship these items and choose a transit time from six to 10 days. To set up a Freight Template, choose the Set up special templateoption at the bottom of the Shipping Templates page.

Notes

If SKUs  are not assigned to a Custom Shipping Template, the items will reflect the settings set in the Default Shipping Template. This includes transit times and delivery estimates.
