Overview

Products subject to our policy on Native American Products must also adhere to other Prohibited Products Policies including our policy on Artifacts and Antiquities or Walmart will automatically unpublish your item.

What is the policy?

Walmart prohibits sellers from listing or selling any item in a manner that falsely suggests it is Native American, produced by an American Indian, or the product of a particular tribe or arts and crafts organization within the United States.

Products sold as Indian, Native American, or the product of a particular Indian Tribe, must be made by an enrolled member of a federally or officially State recognized Tribe, or a certified nonmember Indian artisan by the Tribe of their direct descent.

The use of a name or other Native American references must not infringe on any intellectual property rights of any tribe.

Allowed

  • Items that are not made or sold by a member of a state or federally recognized tribe or someone certified as an Indian artisan by a recognized tribe, including:
    • Items referencing “Native American," “Indian," or the name of an Indian tribe, such as Navajo, Aztec, or Apache
    • Jewelry 

    • Pottery 

    • Baskets 

    • Carved Stone 

    • Woven Rugs 

    • Kachina Dolls 

    • Clothing 

  • Books about Native Americans or indigenous people  
  • Artwork & posters depicting Native Americans  

  • Products pre-approved to be sold by Native American Tribes
