General liability insurance is the most basic insurance coverage to help safeguard a business. It protects businesses from claims during your normal business operations, such as bodily injury, property damage, and others. Keep reading to learn the insurance requirements for U.S. and international-based sellers.
What is the policy?
Walmart Marketplace requires U.S. and international-based sellers to submit a Certificate of Insurance (COI) with general liability and product liability insurance if the seller exceeds $100,000 in GMV in any 12-month period or if the seller is notified by Walmart directly. You're encouraged to maintain insurance to protect your business, even if you don’t qualify based on the requirements above.
The Certificate of Insurance (COI) must include:
Your legal business name as the “Named Insured." Your legal business name on the insurance certificate must match your legal business name listed within Seller Center.
General and product liability limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate.
Walmart Inc. as an additional insured party in one of the following ways:
As the certificate holder: | Under the description of operations: |
---|---|
Walmart Inc. 702 SW 8th Street Bentonville, AR 72716-3570 Attn: Insurance Compliance | “Walmart Inc., its subsidiaries and its affiliates" listed as additional insured party. |
If the certificate of insurance doesn’t comply with the requirements, a delay may occur in processing the agreement until compliance is met. Failure to maintain insurance coverage for an active vendor number may result in an inactivation of the account. Orders and payments may be withheld until the COI has been received and approved by Walmart. For more detailed information about Walmart Marketplace insurance requirements, review our Insurance Requirements.
Additional guidelines
If your business meets the insurance requirements above, you'll be notified via email to submit your COI in Seller Center. If you don’t already have liability insurance coverage, Walmart has provided a link to an insurance broker you may consider in purchasing insurance. Reach out to the insurance broker directly to inquire.
