Product details policy

Overview

As a Marketplace seller, you’re required to provide accurate details about the products you sell. In this guide, you’ll learn about the product detail policy on Walmart.com. 

What is the policy?

Your product’s title, description, key features, images and additional attributes help determine how your items appear in search and browse results on Walmart.com. The table below lists requirements for accurately filling out the product title, description, key features and imagery for your product detail page.

Your item content must follow the Prohibited Products Policy and all other Walmart policies. You may refer to our Content Standards for additional guidance. 


Product title

Allowed

Prohibited

  • Writing brief titles not exceeding 150 characters.  
  • Creating clear, descriptive titles without repetitive keywords, multiple brands or multiple product types. 

  • Using proper capitalization. 

  • Including relevant values that describe key attributes (e.g., 5 in, 4 count, 12 oz). 

  • Writing in all caps or using special characters (e.g., ~, !, *, $).
  • Making any promotional claims (e.g., free shipping, Walmart fulfilled, hot sale, top rated, premium quality, best-selling, clearance, Black Friday, savings, low price).

  • Using Walmart or any other retailer name unless licensed or is part of the product's brand name.

  • Including irrelevant information (e.g., coming soon, out-of-stock, discontinued).  
  • Incorporating any URLs in any format, including Walmart.com.

  • Using languages other than English.
  • Including years (e.g., 2025, 2024) unless it is recommended by the Content Standards for your item's product type.
  • Repeating keywords and phrases multiple times.


Description

  • Describing the item’s features and benefits, including the product name, brand and keywords.  
  • Including related words that customers are likely to search for. 
  • Creating one paragraph with a minimum of 150 words. Word count requirements vary by product category.  
  • Making claims of competitor exclusivity (e.g., Amazon exclusive or exclusive to Target.com, etc.).
  • Using Walmart or any other retailer name unless licensed or is part of the product's brand name.
  • Making any promotional claims (e.g., free shipping, Walmart fulfilled, hot sale, top rated, premium quality, best-selling, clearance, Black Friday, savings, low price).
  • Making any authenticity claims for any product listed on Walmart.com unless you've obtained Walmart's approval for the claim or if the item is a food product (e.g., authentic Louis Vuitton, Lego assorted minifigures authentic, or 100% authenticated Leather). 
  • Including irrelevant information (e.g., out-of-stock, discontinued). 
  • Using external URLs.
  • Using emojis.
  • Using languages other than English.
  • Describing a product different from the one mentioned in product title.
  • Repeating keywords and phrases excessively.


Key features

Allowed

Prohibited

  • Listing the most important features first, including three to 10 of the most important benefits and features of your item.  
  • Using short phrases to avoid repetitive keywords.

  • Using more than 80 characters (spaces included) per key feature.  
  • Making claims of competitor exclusivity (e.g., Amazon exclusive or exclusive to Target.com, etc.).

  • Using Walmart or any other retailer name unless licensed or is part of the product's brand name.
  • Making any promotional claims (e.g., free shipping, Walmart fulfilled, hot sale, top rated, premium quality, best-selling, clearance, Black Friday, savings, low price).
  • Including irrelevant information (e.g., out-of-stock, discontinued).
  • Using external URLs. 

  • Using emojis . 
  • Using additional text formatting like HTML, bullets or numbered lists when adding key features.
  • Using languages other than English.
  • Describing a product different from the one mentioned in product title.
  • Repeating keywords and phrases excessively.


Additional guidelines

When filling out the product title, description or key features, you may use languages other than English only if it’s part of the item or brand name. You can also use the brand name if it’s part of the product name.

 In addition to the guidelines above, you must adhere to the following:

  • Ensuring values are relevant to the attribute and correspond with each attribute's unit of measure (e.g., enter numeric values for capacity).
  • Filling in as many attributes as possible, if accurate information is available.
  • Using text where numbers are expected and vice versa (e.g., using purple for weight or 16 oz for color).
  • Using incorrect values (for example, using xyz for materials).
