How to Obtain Supporting Tax Documents

Overview

When setting up your account for the first time or making changes to your Tax Profile, you’ll need to provide supporting documents which will need to be approved by our internal team. Please upload the government issued documents as required. Walmart Canada Marketplace sellers are responsible for configuring their Sales Tax settings as well as Shipping Sales Tax codes. Pro tip

There is no need to provide your Manitoba and Saskatchewan (PST) registration number, as Walmart collects and remits this tax on your sales.

Obtain GST and HST Supporting Tax Documents

Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) number is the federally issued tax id for sales tax purposes. The GST/HST registration number will be in the following format:#########RT####(9 numeric; RT; 4 numeric) (e.g. 137466199RT0001).

Steps to provide a screenshot of the GST/HST registration number validation from the CRA website as a proof of registration (Certificate):
  1. Go to the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) website.

  2. Scroll down to Start a GST/HST Registry Search and click Search now.

  3. Confirm the Terms and Conditions by clicking I agree.

  4. Enter the first 9 digits of the GST/HST registration number.

  5. Enter name of business of the seller as per the registration. This name can be found on any correspondence from the CRA.

  6. Enter today’s date in the right format.

  7. Click Submit and verify the Result.

  8. Confirm that the business is registered as per the comments under Result.

  9. Capture the screenshot in a PNG, JPG or PDF document and submit as attachment. The file should be smaller than 5MB.  

QST Supporting Tax Documents

Quebec Sales Tax (QST) registration number is the provincially issued tax id for sales tax purposes. The QST registration number will be in the following format: ##########TQ#### (10 numeric; TQ; 4 numeric) (1016551356TQ0001). Steps to provide a screenshot of the QST registration number validation on the MRQ website as proof of registration (Certificate):
  1. Go to the MRQ website

  2. Click EN at the top right corner to toggle from French to English.

  3. Enter all 16 characters of the QST#.

  4. Click Search.

  5. Confirm the date, name, and status.

  6. Capture the screenshot in a PNG, JPG or PDF document and submit as attachment. The file should be smaller than 5MB.  

PST Supporting Tax Documents

BC Provincial Sales Tax (PST) registration numbers are provincially issued tax id for sales tax purposes. For this document, the PST # will be in reference to the Sales Tax registration number issued by the province of British Columbia (BC). The BC’s PST number will be in the format PST-####-####. Steps to provide a screenshot of the PST registration number validation on the BC e-tax website as a proof of registration (Certificate):
  1. Go to BC tax website

  2. Click on Verify a PST Number.

  3. Enter the Canadian Business NumberThis is the first 9 digits of the GST/HST Registration number.

  4. Enter the PST Number. The PST number is in the format PST-####-####. Enter the number in the format ####-####.

  5. Acknowledge, I have read and agree to the terms and conditions of use.

  6. Verify that the result is, PST number is valid.

  7. Capture the screenshot in a PNG, JPG or PDF document and submit as attachment. The file should be smaller than 5MB.
