Catalog Classification
Items shipped cross-border must clear customs. Ship with Walmart services utilizes electronic submission of the commercial invoice to facilitate customs clearance. Country of Origin, along with an accurate product description and price, assist in product classification; all these components will be needed to complete the Commercial Invoice.
The Country of Origin is the country in which the product was originally manufactured, not the country from which the item is being shipped. For example, if an item was manufactured in Thailand and shipped from the US to Canada, the COO would be Thailand.
Key Points to Consider:
- Ship with Walmart will only classify items that have Country of Origin populated.
- Only classified items can be shipped via the Ship with Walmart program; label requests for non-classified items will result in an error message.
- An order containing both classified & non-classified items will have to be shipped separately.
- Items uploaded to the system without Country of Origin will now automatically be published on Walmart.ca. They can be shipped by your non-SWW carrier.
- Items uploaded to the system with Country of Origin typically take 3-5 business days to classify. They will remain unpublished until the item is classified.
- The Duty Report, available on your Manage Items section of Seller Centre, has two columns (Classification Status & Classification Status Description). Also, this report lists all catalog items to make it easy to check the item status.

New Seller on Walmart Canada Marketplace
If you are setting up your catalog for the first time on the Canada Marketplace page, see Fill Out the Full Item Spec Sheet.
- All items you want to ship via SWW must include a Country of Origin (COO) and be Classified.
- The Country of Origin will trigger items to be Classified.
- Items which are missing COO and/or classification will result in a label generation error and cannot be shipped via Ship with Walmart.
- On the Duty Report, review the "Estimated Duty Cost (CAD)" for each product and determine whether or not to adjust pricing.
Existing Seller on Walmart Canada Marketplace
If you have already uploaded your catalog to Seller Center, you will:
- Determine which items you wish to ship using SWW.
- Update the Item Spec for these items with Country of Origin.
- Walmart will provide product classification for your products.
- Review the Duty Information Report in Seller Center to confirm that your products status are CLASSIFIED
- On the Duty Report, review the "Estimated Duty Cost (CAD)" for each product and determine whether or not to adjust pricing.
