Calculating Inventory

Overview

Once an order is shipped or closed, it will be subtracted from the Walmart Open Orders count. You should update your inventory count when you ship orders for Walmart or other marketplaces to avoid overselling. We strongly recommend shipping your orders frequently to keep your inventory count up to date.

Calculation

The following terms are used to calculate inventory:

  • Displayed on Walmart.ca: The number of units displayed for sale on Walmart.ca. When this value reaches 0, your item will display as Out of Stock.
  • Inventory: The total number of units you have available to sell.
  • Walmart Open Orders: The number of orders placed on Walmart.ca that have not been acknowledged or closed (i.e. shipped or canceled).

The calculation is as follows:

Inventory - Walmart Open Orders = Displayed on Walmart.ca

Sample calculations

Example 1: You have 100 units available to sell in your warehouse. No orders have been placed on Walmart.ca. 100 units will be displayed on Walmart.ca.

Example 2: You have 100 units available to sell in your warehouse. There are 5 Walmart Open Orders. You have not yet shipped these orders.

Example 3: You had 100 units available to sell in your warehouse and there were 5 Walmart Open Orders (as in Example 2). Then you ship these 5 Walmart orders. Now you have only 95 items available to sell. You update your inventory to 95. Note that this update is necessary to avoid overselling. Now 95 units are displayed on Walmart.ca.

Example 4: You had 100 units available to sell and 5 Walmart Open Orders that you had not shipped. In the meantime, you just sold 20 units on your website. You update your inventory to 80 units. 75 units will be displayed on Walmart.ca because you have not shipped your Walmart Open Orders.
